Departure!

Well, we did it. We threw off the dock lines and left Shilshole Marina on the morning of Thursday, May 8. We're off voyaging by sailboat until the end of September.

Our first passage to Port Ludlow went smoothly and we spent a very relaxing two nights in Port Ludlow recovering from the mad dash to depart. We spent a lot of time sailing our little dinghy around the harbor. Highlights of our stay included watching an eagle hunt over the water, trying in vain to capture a small diving bird we have yet to identify. The eagle circled and dove, all the while being harassed by seagulls and crows.

We're currently in Port Townsend planning our crossing of the straight of Juan de Fuca and dealing with the bureaucratic aspects of crossing the border.

We hope to check in here again before departing Port Townsend for Bedford Harbor on South Pender Island BC.

Thanks to all of you for your support and special thanks to those of you who found the time to drop in on us during our departure preparations. I'm looking forward to sharing many pictures and stories here. So look for more soon.
