6/8 - 6/11 Gorge Harbor

Here we sit under continual rain in Gorge Harbor. The predicted Southeast gale that we were to ride out never manifested. Tonight a Northwest gale is predicted to hit. Who knows? Is it time for another anchor watch?

If you're reading this, we got a break in the weather and made the half mile walk to Trude's cafe, a wonderfully hippy cafe and organic bakery replete with a rainbow colored, hand painted hippy mobile parked in the back yard. The allure of baked goods and free Internet access in a welcoming, bohemian establishment are calling to us through the foul weather.

The entrance to Gorge Harbor lives up to its name. The 200' wide entry is sided by cliffs on one side and boulders on the other. The cliffs still bear traces of native petroglyphs, but I didn't see them. Jiayu rode on the bow enjoying the scenery and paintings while I took great joy in the tail wind pushing us straight through this narrow channel, standing ever ready for the turbulent air in the constricted channel throw my mainsail to the other side of the boat. It took all of my attention.

Sure enough, to no one in particular, I called out “Jibe Ho!” as the boom came swinging across with scant warning. I caught it midway by the mainsheet and took some of the pop out of its swing to starboard. I wonder if I'll be able to sail out of here?
