Port McNeill

Port McNeil

My God! How many days has it been since I've bathed. How many days have we gone without fresh vegetables?

Our stores are nearly gone. I can't even figure out when I last had a shower. So, approaching Port McNeil, my spirits brightened—showers, a real grocery store, cafes, Internet! Civilization, I coming!

The first day we anchored across the bay and rowed for an hour to get to town for our first survey of what was available. We explore towns the way we explore bays and islands.

We anchored in an ideal spot to be sheltered from the prevailing Northwest winds. Instead, by the time we rowed back to the boat a Southeast wind was blowing.

We spent a bumpy night in the bay and then took our boat into the harbor the next morning to get out of the building wind and have access to the city for provisioning and preparation for meeting Rob's parents in Alert Bay.
