6/6 - 6/7 Teakerne Arm

A beautiful waterfall and a mistaken weather forecast led to us hang precariously in a bad wind on steep slope—another among several nights of anchor watch.

The next day started calm and we made our way to the lake above the falls and thought about how nice it would be if it were warm enough to swim. Then we got out of there before the winds kicked up again. We flew out of there, heeled over hard, riding long on the verge of changing headsails, a beautiful midday sail that ended, becalmed, two hours later.

* * *
Again, for the sailors out there, one good exit deserves another. Departing for Teakerne Arm, we left Squirrel Cove under sail a second time, this time working together. We flew the genoa and main, again tacking through the narrow entry against the wind. We coordinated like a seasoned racing team and came through beautifully.

But people are truly not used to seeing sailboats under sail. For the second time in two exits, we were asked if we were having engine trouble and offered a tow.
