遵循「水手」精神，我們當然不輕易進入碼頭，而是選擇停靠在對岸的「新城堡島國家海洋公園」。
前二天我們漫步小島的環島步道，眺望即將橫度的喬治亞海峽。第三天我們入駐Nanaimo碼頭，享受文明的便利，也順便貢獻我們稀少的預算。。如同一個朋友所說：碼頭就像吸血鬼，一旦進入，現金就如血流成河的狂洩！
然而在小城中我們也處處發現驚奇：可愛的網路書店/咖啡、熱情的中東小店廚師、詭異的海圖店老闆。我站在昂貴法國蛋糕店的櫥窗前看著精緻如禮物的蛋糕留口水；在碼頭木板下因發現各式多采多姿海葵而目瞪口呆。

Keeping a low budget voyager's mentality, we don't easily decide to stay at a marina. Instead, at Nanaimo, we decided to stay across the bay at Newcastle Island Provincial Marine Park.
The first two days we took walks on the island and looked out over the Strait of Georgia, our next body of water to cross. On the third day we entered the Nanaimo harbor marina to give ourselves two days of city conveniences, and to overrun our tiny budget. It's like Kathy and Tyco said, ropes to shore are conduits that drain the money from your boat. We made some fun discoveries in the city, a cute internet cafe / bookstore, a tiny little Middle Eastern restaurant with a passionate chef, a marine chart store with an oddly eccentric owner. I stood outside an upscale French Bakery and salivated over the delicacies fisible from the window.
On the dock we ran into all sorts of characters. One couple owned a Cape Dory like ours and came over to talk to us. The woman took time to share with me, female to female, the experiences of sailing with her husband, how they got along on board and what she got out of the experiences. I was very grateful to get a female perspective on sailing.
